One of the challenges of using natural wood instead of synthetic materials is that natural wood is alive and can undergo changes in shape due to environmental factors. Therefore, during the manufacturing process, the designer has to anticipate the mischievous behavior that different types of natural wood may exhibit and take preventive measures.

In the image, you can see the horizontal bars of the Small Egret Clothes Rack, which are made of Japanese Elm. The designer chose Beech wood bar for its delicate grain pattern and deeper color to create a pleasing contrast with the ash wood legs.

However, beech wood naturally has shorter fibers, and before applying the finish, it is susceptible to warping due to environmental humidity. To address this, the designer carefully measures each finished horizontal bar at the appropriate time, ensuring they are straight and aligned. If left unchecked, any curvature in the bars would result in an imbalanced assembly of the clothes rack. 🙃
