At 9house, our bowl stand design allows for customizable height and angle, which is why we frequently receive custom orders. A significant portion of these requests come from pet owners whose pets have mobility challenges, making it difficult for them to eat using standard bowl stands. Today, we want to share and discuss the customization process. Our aim is to highlight the thoughtful consideration and love that pet owners invest in ensuring their pets, who require special care, can eat smoothly and happily.
In this case, a French Bulldog owner shared their experience with us. Due to rear leg paralysis, the owner noticed the dog struggled to balance while eating, exerting effort with its front legs and upper body. This often resulted in the dog feeling exhausted rather than full after meals. The owner initially referred to our standard measurement guide for bowl stand height and then reached out to our designer to begin discussions.
Based on the designer’s experience, the typical setting for a French Bulldog is a 15cm height and a slanted bowl surface. However, from the photos provided by the owner, it was clear that the pet’s inability to exert force with its hind legs meant it was effectively eating in a standing position with its rear legs tucked in, making it difficult for the neck to lean forward comfortably. Hence, the pet required a bowl stand taller than 15cm and a slanted bowl surface to prevent the neck from getting caught on the bowl’s edge during meals.
The second consideration was bowl capacity. Due to the French Bulldog’s short snout and large head, a large-mouth bowl such as the “Big Stomach Bowl” (single bowl) or the “King Kong Bowl Stand” (double bowl) would be suitable. For large capacity bowls, there are two material options: reinforced porcelain and stainless steel. The porcelain bowls can be microwaved, which is essential for fresh food preparation. Stainless steel bowls offer larger capacity and are shatterproof. Each material has its benefits, and in this case, the “Big Stomach Bowl Stand” with a porcelain bowl was chosen.
The third aspect was stability. Given that the French Bulldog tends to be energetic while eating, especially in a more upright position, there was a concern about the stand tipping over. However, the design of the “Big Stomach Bowl Stand” features outwardly angled legs, which increase stability as the height setting increases. Additionally, each leg is fitted with a full silicone anti-slip cover that doesn’t degrade over time and provides better grip than standard rubber feet.
After reaching an initial agreement, we asked the owner to elevate their old bowl stand using a makeshift support to simulate the proposed height, ensuring it was appropriate. Ultimately, a height of 22cm with a slanted design was finalized. As part of our custom order service, the designer provides a final height setting diagram to prevent miscommunication and help the client understand the final setup.
We then invited the French Bulldog owner to confidently place their order and await delivery. The end result was a photo of the French Bulldog enjoying its meals comfortably and successfully!
Eating has become much more comfortable 💓💓👍🏻
